"A quick comment from memory : the Quiot brigade marches towards la Haye-Sainte in battalion columns; Bourgeois made a slight change of direction to the right in front of the sablonniere defended by the 95th, and this, together with the direction of Marcognet, forced Donzelot to stop and to appear in the unintended 2nd line : this most probably helped him to form his square as his division would have been in the best order (relatively to the other divisions), and he may have repulsed the cavalry attacks. The regiment on the very right, is the 85e de ligne, the only regiment formed, due to lack of men, in two ranks, and being left behind to provide cover for the grande batterie. It would form a square of it's two battalions and recieve a charge... "
